Whether you’re working for a small company or trying to become an influencer, social media is the easiest (and cheapest)way to get your name out there. There are over 1 billion active users onInstagram every day — this is a huge market to take advantage of. However, you’ll need to know exactly how to tap into this market to get the most out ofit.

Why Social Media?

In 2020, there were over 3.6 billion people on Social Media across the world. People use social media for many different reasons: generating leads and building an audience, making money as an influencer, or just plainly to connect with others and keep in touch with friends.

Your Social Media presence is important if you want your brand to grow. Simple things like having a presentable profile page and bio, and bright, eye-catching photos can attract people to becoming your followers.

1. How Can I Grow My Social Media?

Growth marketing strategies can differ depending on the social media platform you’re using. Instagram, for example, thrives on consistency and quality entertainment. Posting engaging content on a regular basis is key for growth on Instagram. LinkedIn, on the other hand, is based on building connections and relationships in the professional world. It requires great networking skills — so, you always need to have something to offer as a professional.

2. Provide Great Content

Determine who your buyer persona is.This is the audience that would get the most out of following you and interacting with your content. It is crucial to set SMART goals to maximise your results. Plan the type of content you would like to post and decide whether that should be videos, reels, text, or photos. Ask yourself what message you’d like the world to hear when they see your brand. This is important to let your audience know what your identity is.

Using a scheduler tool to plan when your content is posted is important to ensure you’re posting around 3–4 times per week. Any more and it may be too much. Any less? Well, your audience might just forget about you.

You can use tools like Canva Pro to create your content using their templates and amazing designs. Later, or free tool Combin are also great tools to manage your Instagram schedule, plan posts, and monitor analytics.

You should also take advantage of stories, particularly on Instagram, as they are the most popular feature on the app. Stories give your audience an idea of what is happening behind the scenes of your brand, painting you as a real person and subsequently allowing your audience to connect with you.

3. Manage Your Profile

If you’re running a business, it is important to make sure your social media profile, specifically your bio, is about your customers and not you. This means your bio should be describing what service you provide to them. Furthermore, emojis are a good way to emphasise your tone in your social media bios. It’s fun and friendly — a very simple yet effective way to get your point across. 👍

4. Research Your Competitors

Another growth marketing strategy that could build your social media presence is competitor research. Competitor research can help you identify the areas in which brands similar to you are succeeding. It can also help you locate the gaps in which they are failing and allow you the opportunity to do it better.

Think about brands that are similar to yours that also have the same buyer persona as you do. What do they do well?Could you implement those ideas into your campaign?

Post and decide whether that should be videos, reels, text, or photos.

5. Promoting Your Brand

A more direct approach to reaching a bigger audience and building your social media presence is to use paid ads.Using Instagram’s paid ads means you are able to choose how much money you want to spend on advertising while determining the reach you are going to get. You can do this directly through the app by clicking ‘Promote’ on one of your posts.

To ensure the best return on your investment into paid ads possible, you need to know your audience like the back of your hand. Make your content entertaining by using videos and minimising the use of text. Finish with a compelling call to action to encourage your audience to engage with your product, or even give you a follow.

6. Influencer Marketing

Alternatively, you can use influencers to promote your products for you. Influencer marketing is an $8billion business, and it is only growing. There is no one-size-fits-all approach to how to recruit influencers to promote a product, but don’t limit yourself to finding influencers at the very top.

Micro, or even nano-influencers prove just as good — these are those with anywhere from 1000 to 100,000 active followers on social media. These followers, with a higher engagement rate, can be just as effective at promoting your brand. They charge less too!

Remember, the common goal amongst social media companies is to provide entertaining and engaging content to users. To be engaged with on social media, you have to be engaging.Don’t be discouraged, and don’t give up. If you stay consistent, your social media presence will grow, opening up more doors of opportunity.
